Agentic AI describes AI systems that pursue goals and take multi step action on their own with minimal prompting.
What Is Agentic AI?
Agentic AI refers to systems that pursue a goal on their own, making decisions and carrying out actions across several steps without a person prompting each individual move. It is the difference between a tool you operate step by step and a system that operates on your behalf.
A standard AI model waits for an instruction before doing anything. An agentic system instead breaks a goal into tasks, works through them, adjusts when something changes along the way, and only checks back in when it needs a decision from a person or hits the limit of what it is allowed to do.
That independence is powerful, and it comes with real risk, which is why so much of the engineering work sits in the guardrails: what the system is allowed to do, how it reports back, and where a human stays involved.
Search is heading in a similarly autonomous direction, with AI systems now researching, comparing, and summarizing answers for people instead of just listing links. Sash's Generative Engine Optimization service helps brands make sure they are part of that summary rather than left out of it.

How is agentic AI different from generative AI?
Generative AI produces content such as text or images. Agentic AI uses that same ability to actually take action and complete a task.
AI systems are increasingly acting on a user's behalf when they search, researching options and handing back a single summarized answer instead of a list of links to click through. Brands that are not structured to be picked up by that process quietly lose visibility even while their traditional rankings look fine.
